There are places of great danger. Most of us have never actually been in a region of the world where mortality is genuinely a daily issue. The greatest risk we’ve taken is driving through “the bad part of town” with the gas tank just above empty. Very few of us have been in situations where tomorrow is an iffy prospect. Those who have faced actual danger carry the memory. They remember the details. A dry mouth, shaking hands, a racing heart. Some experienced only a calm detachment until they were safe again, experiencing fear only after the fact. Many of us have at least felt the flash of adrenalin from the “close call.” Still others have faced a prolonged threat lasting for an extended amount of time. Within the Earthen Vessel: A Living Sacrifice
